On Tuesday, October 14, public address systems and screens at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) were hacked with pro-Hamas messages, causing flight delays.
The incident started around 5 p.m. and lasted for approximately two minutes, with messages including "Free Palestine" and profanity directed at the U.S.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging," said the airport in a press release. "It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
The City of Kelowna stated that the cyber security incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
Airport services were restored, with the YLW team working to resolve the issue.
