Six US companies will spend at least $350 million to manufacture medical gowns for the Strategic National Stockpile.
This move comes years after doctors and nurses faced shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The purchase aims to shore up the personal protective equipment in the stockpile, which was depleted early in the pandemic due to lack of restocking in previous years.
The new gowns are among the many purchases the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response has made to restock the emergency coffers.
Assistant Secretary Dawn O’Connell noted this investment as one of the final steps in replenishing the stockpile.
