Oil Springs Seeks Funding for Fire Hall Air Exchanger

The Village of Oil Springs aims to enhance protection for its volunteer firefighters by applying for a provincial fire protection grant.

The grant, intended to support cancer prevention initiatives for municipal firefighters, can be used to purchase equipment, supplies, and minor infrastructure upgrades, aligning with a broader provincial effort to promote firefighter health and safety.

According to Oil Springs Clerk Martha Gawley, the grant would cover half of the $16,000 cost of an air exchanger for the Oil Springs and South Enniskillen Fire Department.

This initiative follows previous discussions on improving firefighter safety, including a 2024 recommendation by the Ministry of Labour for new washrooms and shower facilities to facilitate decontamination after calls.

The village has submitted an application to the provincial fire protection grant to allow for an air exchanger to be purchased for the Oil Springs and South Enniskillen Fire Department.
