Crackdown on Non-Conforming Registration Plates
Motorists are advised that each non-conforming registration plate can result in a €60 fine per plate.
The Naas Roads Policing Unit has issued a warning to motorists after stopping a vehicle displaying non-conforming registration plates during a recent patrol.
Non-Conforming Plates
- use custom or non-standard fonts
- have incorrect sizes, colours, or spacing
- omit the EU flag or “IRL” identifier
- are designed to defeat Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems
Motorists are advised that each non-regulation, missing, or obscured plate can result in a €60 Fixed Charge Notice per plate.
A Garda spokesperson said the rules are in place to ensure number plates are easily identifiable and consistent with national and EU standards.
