State Safety Regulator Reviews Sable Offshore Restart Plan

The Office of State Fire Marshal has informed Sable Offshore that its restart plan may still have remaining steps to be completed.

In a letter sent to Sable Offshore on October 22, the Office of State Fire Marshal noted that the company had not met certain restart requirements, specifically regarding tool sizing tolerance as outlined in item 9 of the safety waivers granted in December of last year.

The state safety regulator argued that full remediation requires a permanent repair method and that tool tolerance is included in the state's safety waivers.

The Office of State Fire Marshal indicated that there are unmet conditions within the waivers granted to Sable Offshore, which must be addressed before the company can restart oil production in California.

Author's summary: Sable Offshore restart plan has unmet conditions.
