Cameroon Opposition Leaders Arrested Amid Protests Over Contested Elections

Two opposition leaders in Cameroon, Anicet Ekane and Djeukam Tchameni, have been arrested ahead of the official announcement of the presidential election results.

They were taken from their homes in Douala by armed, hooded members of an elite military force to an unknown destination, according to the Union for Change 2025 opposition grouping.

Both MANIDEM and MDI are part of the Union for Change 2025 coalition, which backed presidential candidate Issa Tchiroma Bakary in the 12 October election.

Bakary claims to have won the election, challenging President Paul Biya's 43-year rule.

No comment from the authorities has been released regarding the arrests.
