AAO 2025 Meeting Highlights
The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual scientific meeting in Orlando, Florida, showcased new technologies and research.
Researchers from Massachusetts Eye and Ear presented a study using the TriNetX network to review electronic health records of over 17,000 patients aged 18 to 90.
- Xanthelasma patients had a 14% risk of cardiovascular events, compared to 11.8% in the control group.
- Xanthelasma patients also had a higher rate of high cholesterol or lipid disorders (50% vs 38%).
Effects of GLP-1 drugs on eye health and a potential sign of cardiovascular disease were discussed.
