Apple will soon introduce a feature to Apple Wallet, allowing U.S. users to create a digital ID using their passport.
This digital ID can be used at select TSA checkpoints for domestic travel, building on Apple's expansion of Wallet as a secure place to store digital identity.
Currently, support for government IDs in Apple Wallet is available in 12 states and Puerto Rico, roughly a third of the U.S.
The passport-tied Digital ID feature was previously announced as part of the iOS 26 release.
The new digital IDs will not replace a U.S. passport, but rather provide a convenient digital alternative for domestic travel.
