Proposed Unitary Councils for Staffordshire
Three southern Staffordshire councils have proposed a local government reorganisation plan to create three new unitary authorities.
- Lichfield, Tamworth, and East Staffordshire: over 322,000 population
- Cannock Chase, Stafford, and South Staffordshire: 360,000 population
- Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Stoke-on-Trent: nearly 495,000 residents
The plan is supported by 75% of 16,700 local residents consulted, and officials argue it would deliver significant cost savings of up to £22m.
