Council Completes Purchase of Belfast's Historic Assembly Rooms
Belfast City Council has completed the purchase of the historic Assembly Rooms, a Grade B1 listed heritage building dating back to 1769.
Vacant since 2000, the Assembly Rooms is one of Belfast's most prominent and architecturally important public buildings, located on the corner of North Street and Waring Street.
- In 1786, plans to establish a slave trading company were rejected at the Assembly Rooms.
- The famous Belfast Harp Festival was held there in 1792.
- Henry Joy McCracken was sentenced to death at the Assembly Rooms in 1798.
