In regional Australia, the next wave of environmental and energy innovation is emerging in waterways, farms, and skies.
In the Torres Strait, near Badu Island, a group of friends, including Dennis Fay, a firefighter and former Australian Army soldier, are making a difference. They have created a YouTube channel, where they upload videos of their adventures, including spearfishing and exploring the islands.
Because the Torres Strait sits between two large land masses [Australia and Papua New Guinea], it acts like a funnel,
says Dennis, explaining the reason behind the large amount of debris found on the beaches. Despite the beauty of the area, the islands are littered with glass, plastics, and discarded fishing nets.
Dennis and his friends have built a large following on YouTube, with over a quarter of a million views on their channel.
