Despite a slight dip of 0.3% in production between January and March 2025 compared to the same period last year, the European Commission's latest short-term outlook reports a steady EU poultry production.
Leading the growth are countries such as Greece (+17%), Slovakia (+8%), Spain (+7%), Croatia (+7%), Bulgaria (+6%), Portugal (+6%), and Slovenia (+5%). However, production fell in Poland, Italy, and Hungary due to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks.
Poultry prices have increased significantly, with mid-June broiler prices averaging €306 per 100 kg, representing a 13% year-on-year increase. This rise is attributed to strong demand and limited market supply.
For 2025, the Commission forecasts a 1.8% growth in EU poultry production, driven by robust consumer demand, decreasing feed costs, and higher output prices.
Author's summary: EU poultry production to grow 1.8% in 2025.
