The Estonian Ministry of Climate has proposed amendments to the Nature Conservation Act, which would require landowners to control the spread of invasive plants.
Currently, the Act only prohibits landowners from growing certain plants or allowing them to enter the wild. However, the new version would obligate them to actively limit the spread of certain invasive species.
Merike Linnamägi, advisor to the Biodiversity Protection Department of the Climate Ministry, noted that the current wording allows for interpretations.
Author's summary: Landowners in Estonia will be obliged to control invasive plants.
