Adele Wong, founder of Pineapple Bakery, knows a thing or two about pineapple buns, the unexpectedly viral bite of the summer.
Wong created the recipe for the viral pineapple bun two years ago, but it wasn't until June 2025 that it emerged publicly and started selling out 900 buns every week.
As a private chef, Wong's pineapple bun was first sampled by her clients, who became private investors in the Sheung Wan bakery.
“Originally, we had planned to open up a Hong Kong-style bakery and sandwich shop where we make our own bread and serve sandwiches,”
Adele Wong said, noting that the shop was always intended to serve traditional Hong Kong foods, including pineapple buns.
