Cold War Veteran Reflects on Service, Sacrifice, and Freedom
Tom and Debbie Putnam, high school sweethearts from Dayton, Ohio, have lived a lifetime of service, faith, and devotion to their country and each other.
Their story began in their hometown, but soon took them to Cold War Berlin, one of the most heavily guarded cities on earth, where freedom and tyranny clashed.
“Our fathers and our uncles served in the military during World War II,” Tom recalled. “We grew up hearing the stories and admiring the courage and sacrifice it took them in fighting the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese so that the world could be free of that tyranny.”
Tom's family stories inspired him to serve, and he followed in the footsteps of his fathers and uncles who fought in World War II.
