There is only one One Tree Hill, but it feels incomplete without its two main leads. Amid the trend of reviving beloved shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a reboot for One Tree Hill has also been rumored. The drama aired from 2003 to 2012 across nine seasons, with the final two seasons undergoing significant changes.
Both shows share more than just reboot plans—they involve controversial showrunners. Buffy was created by Joss Whedon, who faced accusations of workplace harassment. Similarly, One Tree Hill was created by Mark Schwahn, who was accused of sexual harassment, leading the cast and crew, including lead stars Hilarie Burton Morgan and Danneel Harris Ackles, to write a letter supporting the victims.
In summer 2024, news surfaced about a possible One Tree Hill reboot, though details remain scarce. In a recent People interview for the Sexiest Man Alive feature, Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty, who portrayed brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott, expressed doubts about returning.
“We did the show and played those characters for nine years,” Lafferty said. “I’m not sure what the rest of that distance would be.”
The actors, who evolved from on-screen rivals to real-life friends, expressed skepticism about how the show could fit into the current climate.
The two leads of One Tree Hill cast serious doubt on reprising their iconic roles, reflecting challenges in rebooting the beloved show.
