Former Gator Will Richard Scores 30 in First NBA Start

The Golden State Warriors played without their superstar Stephen Curry, but rookie guard Will Richard made a strong impression during his first NBA start, scoring 30 points in a narrow 121–116 loss to the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Wednesday night.

In his debut as a starter, Richard delivered an efficient performance, shooting 10-for-15 from the field (66.7%) and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc (62.5%). He also added seven rebounds and three assists in 35 minutes on the floor.

“Will was amazing,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “From the beginning of camp, he’s shown that he’s an NBA player with experience and composure. He doesn’t turn the ball over and can handle pressure. This guy’s a hell of a player.”

The Warriors acquired Richard by trading up with the Memphis Grizzlies for his draft rights in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft, giving up their 59th pick and a conditional future second-round pick in the process.

Before going pro, Richard spent three seasons with the Florida Gators and was the first player to commit to head coach Todd Golden’s staff after transferring from Belmont University.
