Plane Crash Kills One in Milton

One person died and another was seriously injured after a plane crashed into the driveway of a home in Milton. The pilot, Frederick Barber, 58, from Port Charlotte, Florida, was killed in the crash. The passenger, Alexander Hoff, 39, from Hollis, New Hampshire, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center.

The crash occurred at 10:24 AM on Wyndham Way in a residential area of the Town of Milton. Nine fire departments, three police agencies, Community EMS, Saratoga County Office of Emergency Management, and the Saratoga County Hazardous Material Team responded to the incident, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

At a press conference, Saratoga County Sheriff Mike Zurlo explained the plane likely struck a tree before crashing into the driveway of the residence. Although the event was initially reported as a structure fire with entrapment, first responders found the fire was confined to outside the home and the structure itself was unharmed.

"The house was occupied at the time, but the residents were not injured and were able to safely evacuate," said Sheriff Zurlo.

The plane involved was a Mooney M20E, a fixed-wing single-engine aircraft originally manufactured in 1964, as per FAA Aircraft Registration records.
