Season 5 of Stranger Things premieres later this month, sparking curiosity about the real dynamics among the cast. Though they grew up together, the closeness of their relationships is nuanced.
In 2023, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, told GQ that the cast does not text daily. He explained,
“Do you text your cousins every day? They’re our family. We’ll talk on each other’s birthdays. But in the same way that family works, if I ever needed anything, they’re there.”
Wolfhard, now 22, also joked about Winona Ryder’s texting style:
“She’s one of the funniest texters ever, because she’ll text you and then you’ll text her back and then she won’t text you ever again.”
Ryder raised some eyebrows in 2024 by notably excluding Millie Bobby Brown while naming her favorite co-stars.
“I love the boys and I love Sadie [Sink] and Maya [Hawke],” Ryder told Esquire in August 2024.
She also commented on the younger cast’s attitude toward movies:
“I don’t mean to sound so hopeless. There are a few that are just not interested in movies. Like, the first thing they say is, ‘How long is it?’”
Fans speculated that this remark referred to Brown, who earlier admitted to The U.S. Sun that she finds it difficult to sit through full-length films.
The cast of Stranger Things shares a family-like bond, though their communication styles differ, and some off-screen dynamics, especially involving younger members, have drawn attention.
