Justin Rose’s management team has informed Today’s Golfer that the English golfer has decided to focus on playing in one more Ryder Cup before considering a captaincy role. The shortlist for Europe’s next Ryder Cup captain appears to be down to two contenders.
At the Genesis Scottish Open in July, Rose expressed his desire to lead the team at Adare Manor in 2027, promising to give it his all when the time comes. However, his victory at the FedEx St Jude Championship, the first playoff event of the PGA Tour season-ending series, earned him an automatic spot on Luke Donald’s team at Bethpage.
During the Ryder Cup in New York, Rose scored two points and increased his personal tally to 17.5 points, moving into the all-time top 10 players. This experience has fueled his determination to compete again.
A report by The Telegraph noted that sources close to Rose confirmed his intention to participate in an eighth Ryder Cup. Rose’s team has confirmed that he wants to play one more time but has not yet discussed captaincy plans with Ryder Cup Europe, as he focuses on rest after 20 events in eight months.
“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really,”
Rose said about the prospect of a player-captain role, which he has made clear he is not interested in pursuing.
Summary: Justin Rose prioritizes playing in one more Ryder Cup before stepping into any captaincy role, focusing on his performance rather than immediate leadership ambitions.
